Is the best community tool innovation yet. I have 55 on my list now and it's dramatically altering the site experience. Loudmouth idiot timewasting jerks disappear with 2 clicks. I highly recommend ignore as the tool for torquing NT [back] into a site which primarily discusses design. A couple dozen key choices and the noise reduces dramatically.

wow.. i didnt see that feature. so do threads not show up from certain creatures on your list?

'I highly recommend ignore as the tool for torquing NT [back] into a site which primarily discusses design.'
hehe. good plan. but some of the non-design threads have been highly amusing.

just testing-
am I on your ingore list?
- JamesEngage0
I hope I am :)
- jox0
Yeah my list is slowly growing.
- Dolan0
Yep. If you ignore someone you don't see their posts in PVN or PBS and complete threads started by them do not appear either. It's genius. I think I'll lobby for NT3 to auto-ignore everyone who posts into a thread that I've ignored, that would help even more.

James and Rand, not yet!
- K_Fresh0
We should have a post your ignore list thread. I don't have any on mine....cause assholes sort of amuse me sometimes.

do they get off on good behavior? err, i guess you'd never know.

It could kind of defeat the purpose of a discussion. I find it valuable to here from people that have a completely different point of view.
Ignoring what some people have to save leaves me blind. I do not believe it would effect them one bit, but I on the other hand would be ignorant.
That being said...
If there are users that are simple spamming then, I love the fact that we can turn them off. Plus, if one is merely interested in design, the muting all users that do not post under those guidelines will give a more clear view experience.

You can just log out to see if ignored people are posting in a thread you're participating in, and if you want to let 'em back in your world. No one has made it back in for me yet. I'm just hoping the database doesn't have a limit 'cause I think this site will really be steaming once I have a few hundred on my list.

here's a thought: band together with a few friends and put everyone else on the ignore list, and you have a private network
- _salisae_0
paulrand -- may i be one of the first to ask you to be in my band o friends?
you make me laugh..
- Dolan0
Exactly Rand. I don't need 20000 people to get a lot out of a community site, I'd rather have 20 who's opinions I find valuable. In any large community site or list, at a certain point the signal to noise ration starts diminishing, no? That's what's so smart about the feature. Props NT.

paul:
HAHAHAHAHAHA that was hilarious..
- bob0
paul - that is innovative thought. However, are there not thousands of users at Newstoday?
- Dolan0
Tens of thousands I'd imagine. It would be a logical evolution to allow you to the option to only let people into your 'friend group' like friendster or something, or to give you privacy & community preferences like AIM. Will be interesting to see the feature get richer.

Its a bit childish dont you think.
na na na I can't hear you na na na
needing a tool to ignore for you is lazy and lame.
(apart from spammers of course)

Ignoring people is rude :(
- dopepope0
does NT have an 'ignore' feature?
