what's your preferred tool for converting Word Doc's to PDF?
isn't there a freeware tool out there for this?
On a mac it's easy, just say print, then save as pdf. Is there a similar feature in XP that i don't know about?
(without adobe acrobat)

I'v used a thing called PDF Distiller or something like that before.. its free but doesn't really give great results.. Bitmaps are blocky etc .... might be good enough for you though...
Think this was the thing...

Thanks Nematoth. Was the pdf995 the one that was blocky or was it pdf distiller?
any other recommendations? or is that the one to choose?

You can totally just pring to PDF on word on xp. Print to acrobat and then save it to pdf.

I have the Acrobat ditiller and the PDF995. The PDF995 works better I think.

depends on what you want to do. Adobe.com has a free option of converting .PDFs. I think five of them total you can do for free from their site. Or as a workaround go to downloads.com and download some freeware which will do it for you for free. Ideally you want Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. It rocks for PC.

The adobe distiller version isn't free normally and it is the best pdf-maker, it is used at proffesional environments, but you need to do the right settings before the conversion, don't use the adobe pdf writer it's a less sofisticated version of the distiller.
By the way don't use WORD it sucks big time, use Indesign or Quarck

What JazX said! I totally love 6.0 pro, it converts almost anything.
This one time, I turned myself into a PDF and it was like, totally awesome!

Yup get Acrobat 6.0 Pro, your mac must've had Acrobat installed already if you were able to print to PDFs its not a mac or pc thing, just a software thing. And working at a printer, I gotta sway you away from the freeware conversion utilities out there that aren't endorsed by Adobe, they give you sooooooo many problems when it comes time to print.

Yeah, bollocks more like, Mac OS 10.x.x's interface is displayed in PDF format and you can print to pdf from any application can print without installing any extra software, it is part of the OS.

I print to a postscript file, the use Adobe Distiller to make the PDF. Works great for me. Photos turn out perfect.
