could anyone explain to me how the navigation on this site works in flash.
are all the backgrounds one movie working on the x coordinates?

It could be that each section is on a different level (the left-most one on the lowest level) and each level is offset in the x by a bit to show the button of the previous level before it.
There's probably one function that controls the menu... say you clicked on the middle menu item, then it checks the menu array to see which items come after this item and move them all programmatically to a specified x position (with programmatic easing).
This is all just theory and it may all be bullshit though.

Nice site. I guess the only thing I don't like with these is it's just a bit harder to read the section name.
