Domain expired?

Is it possible that a .com domain expires after a while? cause a client tells me that the previous webmaster "lost" the domain name.. and WHOIS tells me that the domain expires soon.. What could have happened there?
Did he forget to extend the contract and someone else bought it?

yep. domain names can expire. just pay the bill. i think there is a small period after expiration where no one can buy it. after that it's free to register for anyone who wants it.

ahh I see.. the record expires at the end of may.. and he told the client that he lost it already.
maybe he just sold it? hmmm..

that's not possible. it's not expired yet. the owner can still extend it. it can only be sold after it really is expired.

look on the WHOIs report and it will tell you where the IPS/DNS tags are currently hosted with, thats who you then need to contact
