Maths is just a set of models humans have come up with to try and describe our universe and therefore in turn, you may say that is why it can be beutiful. Just because it's not how you would represent your view of the universe, dosn't neccessarily make it any less of a valid interpretation. Isn't that what art normally seems to strive to be?

yes

so what, you were so proud at managing to string a couple of words together that you decided to make a whole new thread with the same name just so you could post the same post again?
What are you, like some fucking attention seeking muppet or what?
And what you say is utter bollocks anyway, humans didn't invent maths, thats like saying we invented the atom, sure we gave stuff a name but it doesn't mean that if we hadn't called a number a number that it wouldn't exist.

heh.. ratty fucker aren't I?
;)

yeah, what Rasko said!

New to this stuff, added the 2nd thread by accident

Yeah, but what I don't think you realise is that there is no such thing as an atom as such it's just a convenient way of thinking about the situation. Every civilisation in the universe will probably have their own idea as to what the fundamental building blocks of the universe are. You don't actually get different coloured balls orbiting around each other, it's nothing like that at all. In fact, the atom is an awful representation of what probably goes on. It's just what we as humans have come up with. Our theory of maths is in no way complete and it doesn't fully describe the universe. It's just a representation of the universe that we have come up with.
Anyway, my point was that I like to see art as a method of expressing how you view the universe. I think maths fits into that quite nicely.

I'm down with you Aime. You've obviously read up on ur Greek philosophy. Anyone seen the work of John Maedia? What if Artificial Intelligence makes art - isn't that art made by maths? rasko, ur silly.
- rasko40
I was just using the atom as a simple analogy.
This then raises the issue of how you judge this art, are you judging the individual piece or are you judging the collective knowledge of mathematicians as the art?
If we consider Maths as a language then are we to also consider a tabloid newspaper as art because it uses the artistry of language?

M.C. Escher used math to make art.
I believe fractals possibly for thjat self-portrait in the sphere? don't rip me a new one I'm just guessing about that.
But, my point is that Math can influence and be a part of art. Not for me though... I never got past Algebra 2

Well if you're talking about fractals, you can't just say this isn't art because it uses mathematics. Just like you can't say this isn't art beacuse it uses words (as in tabloid newspapers). There must be some other criteria, that's all.

I'm silly?
You're missing my point, you are already basing your judgements on suppositions, I am questioning the root not quizing the branches.
- rasko40
well exactly.

I think art as it is today is the product of many different influences from many different people, using skills and techniques that have been passed down through the generations.
The situation in maths or physics is pretty much the same.
I think the best way of juding art or maths is through originality.

rasko4 - you are more obviously the attention seeking whore.
do you need some love today? well, here ya go... the copy on your site is very well written. ;)

hahah finally someone noticed the irony in my bullshit rantings.. give yourself a gold star :)
