I believe I read somewhere that with PDF if I have an image with a transparent background ontop of a solid color background for the page that it's possible to keep the transparency in the PDF (therefore, allowing the individual to print out the PDF and not lose the transparency as well).

I mean I have an illustrator file 8.5x11 the page background is set to black. I have a transparent image of a wrench that I have placed over the black. When I pdf it loses the transparency and when I print the pdf it looses the transparency of the wrench background as well.

weird i just tried it again and it preserved the transparency in the pdf and when i printed it another printer. maybe with other printers its a postscript issue.
