Started designing in Mac about 7 years ago and made a complete switch to PC about 2 years ago (because .ASP development). But I really miss having a Mac. How many people out there actually use a Mac for web design and development and what language are you guys using for development.

funny. i switched the other way around. anyways with osx you can run apache, mysql, php etc. locally for development. dunno about asp. i don't like asp. php fan. anyways, pc's are cheaper but with osx you're not limited anymore.

Quality OR Quantity is the question... do you want loads of web apps on windows or do you want the quality and stability of a beautifully crafted Apple Mac
The desicion my friend is yours.

MAC's all the way man! OSX Panther is f**king ace, very stable and very fast!
- rabattski0
i'm a mac man, let's get this straight, mac all the way woo yay but mac/osx isn't the only stable and fast platform. any *nix machine will do as well. and a hellofa lot cheaper as well coz you pay way too much for a mac.

And what about having both of them?
I have a iBook and a PC.... I think its the best thing to have for web dev. coz you can test your stuff on both platform.
Also, Windows XP Pro and OSX 10.3 are both extremely stable and fast. I have both of them, I like both of them... this is the power of the machine that make a difference. There is no more battle against Mac and PC.... both are really great in everything.
exept for gaming... PC is the king for that :)
- rabattski0
which actually makes sense since the world - 1% works on pc anyways. and the same browser cross platform is never the same. so. yeah.
- Big_P0
yeah but MACs look so nice too...
I work on MAC from home but usually when freelancing i get dumped on a DELL... tend to spend all day loosing work and restarting my machine! this could be down to the shitty machines they give freelancers though!
but i agree the best solution is both...
- deeznutz0
you gotta have both, actually.
I prefer Macs, but most people use Windoze and Internet Explorer to view the web, so you have to have something to test on.
Just because it looks great on one web browser, doesn't mean it looks just as great on all the others.
- kerus0
you have to have both, agreed.
things might look perfect on a mac.. but more people out there use pc's..
so you then introduce conflicting gamma and pickier web browsers.i love macs, but to make your code truly bulletproof, you need to check it on a pc

One good reason to use a PC is for testing. If you only have one box to test on and it is a Mac, you are only seeing what 8-10% of the Internet public are seeing.
I switched from Mac to PC 5 years ago and I don't regret it for a minute.
BTW, does flash still run like crap on Macs?
TR
- rabattski0
yep. flash still runs crap on mac compared to a pc but it has improved quite a lot over the last year, year and a half. dunno about the lastest mac machines / lastest mac osx versions. could be that i'm talking bullocks.

[OPINION]
PC is better for web development.

I'm yet another fan of having both.
I design on a G5 (which rocks) and run a cheap testing machine (pile of shit) which also doubles as an ASP test bed.
But I use the PC as little as possible ;-)
- ********0
I did both with an AB Switch. G5 to Dell Optiplex PC. Back and Forth and Forth and Back. ;)
- Donvitoviti0
I switched to Apple, love it.
Panther Rox
...ps.. asp does suckhaaa
- 10mtl0
it´s simple.
print: mac
video: macweb: pc
3D: pc
- Donvitoviti0
I would have to disagree with you there on the Video Aspect ....
PCs are acctually much nicer for Video.
- brundlefly0
yeah buy a mac and fufill your true geeky art fag need!
and buy a $499 dell for testing and a playing a few games.
quite a few of the heavy duty unix geeks I know have bought G5's and are loving it, they are transferring servers to xserves etc...mac really has come a long way.
- XC010
yes, don't deny your inner "art fag" the mac he's always wanted. lol.
that would make a cool ad campaign. nice one brundlefly.
