So going to Rome for first time in May. Staying in Trastevere. Recommendations anyone? Any cool stuff?

ok they deleted the multiple post thread. My point was to get out of Dodge. Roma is a dirty city in general. Rather get out of the main city area and go outside and see the real Italy or head over to Milano. Much coller IMO. :)

Enjoy the street markets with the fresh produce. The Campo dei Fiore is a great idea for partying at night.. during the day check out the Janiculo (spelling?) which is a hilltop park not far from Trastevere. Its a break from the tourist spots and it will give you a great view of Roma and its people.

Any good shopping, design, club sections of the city?

was there last week, yeah pretty dirty city, but loadsa character. Went to the worst club ever, and then didn't try any more, that was called alien in Castro Pretorio area, suppose if you like Sean paul whatever his name then it was good...
Designer shops stuff along Via Del Corso and Via Due Macelli loads near the Spanish Steps. If you want cheap bargainy market stuff keep out of the centre and main streets. There are a million restuarants selling pretty much the same stuff, but they vary some are well bad, only found one really good one which was on Via Montebello. Rome was disappointing for two things: Modern Design and food. However going inside a building that is nearly 2000 years old ruled. St. Peters is unreal, plus Vat Museaum. Also saw pope...

well, I've been all over Italy. Northern, Southern and Island regions. By far Rome is the dirtiest city in Italy IMO. Anyway have fun dude. Tuscany is a sweet spot. :) Rome is here: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps…

Enter response: Rome is great, you just have to walk around and amazing and historic places find you. a few years ago we met up with some locals and went to a mad rave thing at an old meat factory that still had the hooks up on the ceiling... and a boxing ring (now that was surreal!)... we then got moped'ed home past the colleseum at night... brilliant!
Went to Venice last month... some moments we had their are beyond description!
The Amalfi coast is sweet too... it is where they film all those 'generic' car commericals!
?Perhaps I sohuld move to Italy?

i lived in rome for six months..amazing place...history plied on history. my favorite place was a church right next to piazza del popolo (S. Maria del Popolo) it has these two amazing carvaggio's. Definately try to see some of his paintings while you are there.
rent a motorino--best way to see the city
