How can i convert a dashed line to
dashed fills?
- Xentic0
Object/Expand...
I think that's what you need...

object/path/outlinestroke
i'm still using 9. look around this area in other versions.

Expand turns the dashed line into a solid fill through out the entire line. I need to maintain the dashes, just have them fills instead of strokes.

as last resort, save as illustrator 4 file and then reopen. i'm sure there is another better way, but it works.

yes
edit> path> outline strokesand then use the pathfinder palette to combine the shapes
(in newer versions of illustrator, alt+click so it doesn't make the memory-hogging undoable shape)

illy 10 considers dashed strokes a sort of transparency. so you have to flatten the transparency for it to become a shape, and if you hit the 'convert strokes to outline' option, you will get your little filled stroked line just the way you wanted it. really.

Outline Stroke gives the same result as Expand. Expand Appearance should do it, but it's gray. Is it actually working on your computers? I'm in Ill. 10. I tried saving as v.4, but it kept my dashed stroke as a stroke.
Thanks for your efforts. I'll keep at it.
All i'm doing is reproducing a stupid logo at a smaller size.
