This free program for OSX Rips Dvds to MPEG4 or Divx.... and this thing works flawlessly, and is one click ripping.
.......of course for backing up your own collection ;)

One hint...
if you want to fit it to a CD... just use the Target mode.. .then you can set the final video to be the size of a CD aka 700megs etcPS.. the quality is great.
- blackspade0
sweet,... are you using the latest test version 0.6.0 or 0.5.2 ?
:)

know of a similar one for pc?
- Donvitoviti0
I am using the Most recent version.
Acctually I dont know of a PC version.... and I have looked and looked for one.
The ones I have used for PC never work right and are crap.
This one is great.. Stick DVD in.... Set Target Size and desired Quality of audio....RIP..

just converted the Office series 1 dvd from 4.37 GB to 250mb, the quality is still great full-screen. Nice lil app... cheers!

Yeah most PC ones you have to use a series of programs vdub, hedac3he and such.... sounds like a time saver... argh.

i think i will still have to go thru the 2 programs tho, to actually rip a DVD and make a copy that will play on a DVD player
DVD Backup (os X)
Then
DVD2One (os X)
- Donvitoviti0
Ya... this doesnt Make DVD to DVD backups.
But.. if you have a DVD player that Plays Divx... then youre set
- blackspade0
yea then you could chuck more than 1 movie on a dvd
how many players out there support DivX tho ?
- Donvitoviti0
lately alot more.. just start lookin

That's an awesome dvd ripper for the pc. You can reauthor the dvd without subtitles, extras, anything. Totally freeware.

I remember using DVD shrink... Pain in the ass is what I remember.... not to mention i dont think it worked with my External DVD Burner.
Oh well
- gabriel_pc0
maybe it used to be, I've only used the newer version. Put the dvd in, then rip away. Although I don't use it to burn the dvd, just rip. I use nero to make the actual disc.

I just finished ripping a DVD file to AVI and it took 3hr. and 30min.. Was that normal?
- buddylee0
^ Yes, I used HandBrake 0.6.0-test2
- blackspade0
mine didnt take that long to rip, probably half hour
i ripped it to mp4 tho
- Donvitoviti0
yes... that is normal....
it takes about 2x the length of the dvd.... if its 1.5 hours.... it will take 3 hours to rip and convert.
If you have a faster Processor... it will be faster than that.
but yes.. it is normal due to the fact that it is ripping and converting at the same time.
