Might be moving up to Boston...researched a few old posts here, but how's the job market right now? What's rent like? Is it a good idea to bring my car, or is public transport the way to go?

brian, I just emailed you.

It's an indoor lifestyle up there 8 months of the year. It's cold, you'll need a car. The job market is picking up, tons of technology in the area and tons of young people because of all the colleges in surrounding areas. Rents are pretty average for a city, less than NYC, but more than say, baltimore.

Everything's definitely picking up around here, but most of the better jobs are outside of the city limits and you'll most likely need a car to get around.
I don't agree with the 8-month indoor lifestyle bit, i ride my bike from march to november. I guess it will be a shock if you're from LA, we do actually have real seasons here.
Rents are surreal (boston is right behind new york and san francisco), but there's bargains to be had depending on where you want to live.

Thanks for the info guys. It'll be sad to leave sunny L.A. and all my pals, but I think there'll be a lot of nice things waiting for me in Boston.
