Hey Guys,
I need some advice -- CalanHost, the Hosting company that one of my clients uses (http://www.calanhost.com) is totally MIA at the moment.
My client's website has been down for 3 days, the hosting site is also down, and no one has responded to repeated emails & phone calls...
What the hell can I do in a situation like this? My client's site contains a lot of time-sensitive information (it's for a class-action lawsuit) so I've gotta rectify this ASAP.
I'd like to just get a new web host, but unfortunately they registered the domain as well. Do I have any legal recourse to solve this problem?
Please help a Brotha out!

Not a problem to switch both the hosting and the domain name registration...you just have to tell the new host what's going on and they should be able to handle all of the legwork for you.
As far as hosting goes, everyone will tell you Media Temple is the way to go, so I'm sure they're great.
Another option is aplus.net...good service and they have their own domain registry as well. If you call them, they'll transfer the domain for you and get you up and running very quickly.
I deal with this guy and he's really good:

lol...everyone's on the MT train, so it's borderline refreshing to see someone shit on them. Interesting...though I have no experience with them myself to relate.

So here's another question -- If the current hosting company purchased the domain, how can I gain access to the DNS server info?
I have a reseller account, so I could host myself if I can control this...

i signed up for mediatemple, then was confronted by an f*ing slew of problems which they gave me unhelpful, "canned" responses to. then i tell them to cancel my account and they don't, charging me for three months of service i never wanted. WITHOUT asking or notifying me. then i tell them again to fucking kill my account and stop charging me, and they tell me they can't do it. i have to print out this horribly formatted thing that takes up two pages HORIZONTALLY and four pages down with unusable form lines and fax it to a provided fax number THAT DOESN'T EXIST.
fucking wankers.
that and they charge three times the amount most services do, while providing ten times less space.
