printing on gradients

I am having difficulties with trying to print artwork from photoshop with a transparent background on a gradient background in illustrator.
If I print in PDF format, it looks horrible. and I can see the photoshop objects box.
If I print in EPS format, it isnt as bad, but I can still slightly see a box around the object.
Is it going to print out fine in production, or do I need to do something differently to keep the photoshop objects white background from showing up on the gradient background?

also: I have a glow around the photoshop object. Could that be giving me the unappreciated results?

Does the end prouct have to be delivered in Illustrator format? If not, try moving the gradient background into photoshop instead of the other way around.
