Black Ice firewall, and there's also a firewall in my router. But no interface for that. I wish I knew what it's parameters were.

Pretty nice. What's cool is that when it detects something, you can click a link to their site for very detailed info on the type of attack that was attempted.

im gonning to check it out then.

only thing that sucks is that you have to pay something each year to have access to downloading new updates.

and, a software firewall will never compare to a solid hardware one.
depending on your circumstances, paying the 500 bucks for a physicall firewall is a good investment.

Got to agree on the hardware bit, but maybe not the 500 number. You can get a decent managed router for a couple hundred.
And I love Blackice. It lets you control EVERYTHING on your computer, and I mean everything. Stuff like what DLLs will run, what programs can and can't open network connections, it's a little much at times but when it comes to spyware and virii, it's a top-notch tool you'll find very useful.

I work as a network consultant and our company uses mostly NetScreen 5XP firewalls. They are very nice and have excellent VPN capabilities.
