Designing magazines...
very difficult work.

yes, i have taken Indesign to the max for laying out stuff like this only recently.
and there's a LOT to it.
very interesting field of design tho!

A consistent, aesthetically pleasing layout with the ability to expand to accommodate a broad range of topics.............
that's what i'm trying to do.
...and it's difficult.

ah i see, whereas i was more trying to refer to the harsh technical details, such as paginating, sectioning, laying out textframes, defining paragraph styles, character styles, footnotes etc etc.
- Gorbie0
that will come with a couple weeks of practice.
please learn from my mistakes...
I've been working on a few different magazines, which were in dire need of an overhaul when I got them.
My arrogance and short sighted-ness, put me in a position where the design worked for one or two issues - but isn't versatile enough to carry on this way. If I had conceptualized MUCH more, and taken all considerations in, I could have formed a solid template to apply to each issue.
Now I'm stuck in a rut where I have two, taylor-made issues - and this one doesn't fit the mold at all.

so true, if you start out fucked, it'll end more fucked then you'd wished.
solid concept is key.
i know how hard it is to change things in hindsight!

flex those grids an' make 'em work.
- Gorbie0
hindsight is 20/20
my eyes, however, no longer are.
- Gorbie0
This grid would made Müller-Brockmann puke.
- paulrand0
a grid so small everything is on the grid
- paulrand0
I mean a grid so fine
- Gorbie0
it's like a combination of a jigsaw puzzle and 52 card pick-up.
- Bluejam0
you could always blag it by much stroking of chin and muttering 'david carson is my god'...

In that masochistic, i-sleep-on-nails-and-like-it, sort of way!
It's funny that a mind-blowing, beautifully designed cover gets all the compliments. Yet, the entire layout (if executed properly) recevies almost no recognition.
except a continuous read, i suppose.
