so with all the yammering about the passion of the chrizzy, and exploding whales of mass destruction, and michael jacksons nose hole, and sex and the clitty's last episode, and whether gays are humans too, and the general blind retardation that has gripped earth at the mo. It is refreshing to see an article like this ... i think it could have been the best thing to have happened to us humans in a long time.

i sort of agree with this. i don't think people have any idea of how "insignificant" we all are with respect to the rest of the universe.
the appollo missions instilled a certain wonderment in people all over the world. and that has long since been lost. today's younger generations have always treated shuttle missions as just a matter of fact.
people have no appreciation for who we are as humans. everyone just understands themselves as individuals, or members of a group within the human race.
though i don't know if an asteroid hitting earth would have necessarily done that.
