am i the only one who thinks that the grey album is average at best?
i've listened to it a few times now and i've listened to both originals, countless... i would understand the protest etc, if i felt so strongly about the 'original content' of the art.
i have a ton of dj friends who make stuff like this in a night for their friends and call it mix tapes...
if this is the future of hip hop as i've heard...i'm done with hip hop. seems to me that this is years behind guys like cut chemist or shadow (to name ppl everyone knows about).
my .02
sorry about the new thread...but it coincides with the NYTIMES NTB - my excuse.

jesus christ man, do we really need another thread about this fucking album?!
- rasko40
youre right. and thats all I'm going to say before people start asking me "do you listen to hip hop"... Jay Z sucks... more of an old schooler myself but whatever, people do seem to get upset.

is this the official greytuesday site now?

reasons why grey album is so big:
- internet...if someone did this in the 70's (or even 5 years ago), no one would notice.
- the fundamentals of hip-hop are now mainstream. it's not underground anymore. DJ z-trip opened for the rolling stone...
- beatles.
- hip-hop's sensitivities are moving more out of black music. and even more mainstream.
summary: the future of hip-hop is the mainstream. which isn't necessarily bad, jazz was once.

average at best...
Hip-hop emerged among poor African American inner-city youth as a counsel of despair with strong political overtones. It has become an apolitical commodity that increasingly appeals to a white, middle-class audience. The story of hip-hop is thus testimony to the capacity of consumer culture to constrain expressions of freedom and dissent (Frank and Weiland, 1997).

its not even worthy of a thread..because its totally illegal doesnt mean it shuld be getting all this fucking attention...what waste of time..
