In light of all the controversy of the GreyAlbum... Is it cool for me to put a Flash audio player on MY site just to stream music but not to allow for downloading of the tracks? If not, why? Its just for background on my personal site....

of course not!! what are you, some kind of dirty music thief?

Hell no! Its music that I own... whose to say i cant entertain visitors with some music dammit!! Just like the entertainment you receive in a bar or for your guests at your house... Can someone justify?

bars need a license to play music

no, because the "Grey Ablum" is a bloated hipster trend that's not worth it's weight in salt. Posting tunes you made with the karoke P2 game would be more interesting and probably better mixed.

used to work at sony music.. they had one of the tightest contracts in the industry. anything over 30 seconds for a sony artist is considered a broadcast and they'll want to collect royalties.
they suck. couldnt put more than 30 seconds on their own artists websites.

Shellie.. so does this mean I can sample like 10-15 seconds worth of a track and I'll be cool...?

i would think it would be as logn as its not used commercially. otherwise thats another problem.
i keep to using more "indie" music on my site if i do use music. if they find out theyre stoked they got the free adversizing. no legal issues.

besides..anything you stream will end up in your cache anyway, so technically it is downloaded from your site

all they will do is send you a cease and desist notice and then you can frame it and put it on your wall.

don't worry about it--
no one will notice

my thoughts exactly paul...but on the other hand a nicely framed C&D letter would be a great conversation piece to have on your wall...a la dob.

no doubt 2 cent, a friend has one from Playboy Enterprises. He skeezed the bunny for use on some small record label site. Site was only up for 3 weeks and he had a certified letter from Playboy.

nice...i remember this head shop way back was seelling the Mikey D's golden arches shirts that read marijuana under them...they framed it and put er up on the wall for all to see...accompanied by a picture of one of the local Ronald McDonald figures with a huge jizzoint in his mouth.
I want a goddamn C&D!!!
