does anyone work in / from another country and get contracts simply though electronic communication .. web, email etc...? is this even possible within our industry? to work from another country and work simply though the web?

Yes it is. Ive been doing about 30 projects with soley the web as main communication with the client. It can be done, but however we work with an extensive extranet application from where we can post changes and make the latest projectchanges avaible to our clients. So: yes.

and the client found your services through the web? meaning there was no physical meeting with this client?

depends what sort of work you are doing, but we find clients/advertisers/members for our site from all over the world...
Our (really quite small) team is split between UK, France, Japan and USA...
...and when we do work with local developers (London), we hardly ever meet face to face anyway...
What's location got to do with it?

All the time. I meet about only 2% of my clients in person. About a quarter of my clients are in Europe. Sometimes I never even hear their voice, it's all email. I send the finished product via email and get a check in the mail or wired to my bank account. Easy.
It really doesn't matter where you are, as long as you can work through time differences.

ah, never having to meet clients or even hear their voices...just too beautiful to be real. :)

I do it just fine.. Most of my clients are in the UK and I work in Malaysia..
same as some of the other guys here. brief via email, changes posted on temp website, receive comments, make changes, recieve payment to UK account by wire/direct transfer...
It can work.. but I do rely on my contacts in the UK to bring me work. I don;t have a website for myself yet... too bz!!!
