Wow, I thought I was doomed...Thanks to the sweatshop on the IT store on the corner I can continue doing what I love, design, is only $8/h starting but you're missing the point, it doesn't matter how much money I spent at school, this is what I love, and $8/h is going to pay off after 7 years of $0.50 raises, I'm so lucky, I'm now just like any other designer! Yay!

my first design job paid $13 an hour. at least you can build a portfolio to shop around later.

Wow tahts not a lot of money ($8 or $13 an hour). I'm just about to finish school in a few months owing $18,000. Looks like I'll have to find a non-design related job.

the salary is all relative. $13 an hour was a decent amount vs. the cost of living for the city I lived in at the time. get a design job in SF, NY or LA and you'll be making 40k/55k

if you cant make a decent living as a designer, you'll prolly suck at "healthcare" too. nurses and doctors invest a lot in education as well.

Yes, but you can't beat the overtime and the $18.5 starting rate! Healthcare sucks your life but at least the health insurance is free too!
