Saw it last night, can't figure out if i really liked it or really hated it. Anyone else seen it?

i was actually disappointed for all the fucking hoopla of it being NC-17. some parts were rather charming but it left me feeling mostly.. blech.

Yeah, I thought it was really pretentious at times, especially the ending, that was plain awful. But there was something about it that I really liked, like it could have been a really good movie if it wasn't for a few ridiculous parts.

I thought it was beautifully shot as bertolucci tends to do, every shot was held perfectly and the lighting and colors were gorgeous the shot of the brother going through the garbage, the shots in the bathroom and the bedroom all so well lit and framed...
but its an ode to the spoiled bourgeouis intellectuals and I couldn't tell where the director stood on it. I kind of want to see it again as its so lush and I'm wondering if its one of those movies that opens up on repeat viewings.
The weird pomo cross referencing of the films that they were living was a great effect, but it comes down to it being about spoiled children of the intellectuals and somehow frames america through this oblivious purity.
I wasn't sure of... I don't know... Definitely worth seeing for the cinematography though, I can't see that translating as well to home viewing...
