im designing an A1 poster for a client. I cant find any royalty free images larger then 300dpi and about 12 inches wide, as A1 is like 23 inches wide and i want the image to span the entire width it seems like my only option is to stretch the image approx 200% to make it fit.
Im guessing this is a stoopid thing to do, but the client insists the image covers the poster.
opinion?

vectorise the image, or do something else with it so that the resolution is no longer a prob (?)

I'd give genuine fractals a shot. Also, you can get by with less than 300 dpi. If you're printing, say, at 175 line screen you can get away with 250 dpi.

Isnt 150dpi OK for images in a poster that size?

that's true, if it's not offset printing, and more of a digital print, you can get away with even less dpi

its going to be offset printing, ya think 150 will be cool then?

150 is a pretty low end of the quality spectrum
