AF help effect? hows it done

I've been wondering about this effect I've seen used alot. It looks like an image is created in PS or illustrator then imported into AE. The image is then bent warp around objects. I'm not sure how this is done? freeform plug-in?

I thought it was keyframes but I've tried that and didn't get the images to bend at all?

it's done in AE. have all the arrows/objects movie in Comp1.
Put Comp1 in a new comp and then distort it.
Mess with simple shapes for like 30 minutes and you'll figure it out.

...you can do it in flash too, using masks... only takes longer

use the displace effect with the layer with thte objects as a map

In flash you can mask I know but get the image to blend around other objects? I thought this effect was done in AE using freeform plug-in? I've tried to recreate the effect but I can't get a PNG image to bend around other ojects in the screen.

I have tried the new distort in AE 6.0 but was not able to shape the image (png) around other ojects in the sceen
anyone?
