since i have never made one of these, i hope some of you can help.
I have an idea for a website which i want to present to a few people but I am afraid they will steal my idea and do it before i do. It looks like its going to be a whole year project.
Will a none disclosure agreement protect me from that person stealing my idea? How can i protect my idea from people that I present it to ?
I am even afraid to start looking for designers because i am afraid they will take my idea and run.
How can i protect myself?
thx

make them sign a paper saying that they will shut up about the project, but you better just get use to people ripping of people. you can't do shit about some guy making an exact copy of yours

there's nothing you can do about it.
they might not steal it for themselves but they could sell it to somebody else or even work with another dude who won't snitch in case you try to sue

like other posters already said. it's quite hard. and sometimes impossible. in any way you can't make it watertight or foolproof.
anyways, there are ways to keep the damage to the minimum. you already mentioned a non-disclosure. that's a good start. paying the people you hire well and promptly (or at least have a good contract which they are happy with). and last, write the concept down, in detail, add storyboards / sketches if you have 'em. either notarize it or, lowbudget solution, send it to yourself in an closed envelope and make sure you have the date stamp on it. keep the envelope closed untill you get into trouble.
you also got to remember. if it really is a project that will cause some noise, people would like to be involved in it. they as well are too benefitted if it's kept shut till the release. i myself are paranoia as well but sometimes you just got to trust the people you work with. especially if you absolutely need people to produce your idea.
on another note. more self reflecting. how sure are you that it's that unique?
