Hey guys,
Me and my co-producer just recently finished a new song and we'd love to get some feedback on it. It starts off kind of downtempo then moves into epic, nu skool breakbeats.
The song is called "Concerto for Motion - Dream Overture"
here's the link:

The song was produced 85% in Reason, and 15% in Cubase. I am singing and Ryan is doing backup vocals, as well as his girlfriend Becky.
Thanks for your time
Dan

not a big fan or "random talking" or whatever at the beggining of a song.
not a big fan of all the ochestra stuff. sounds like i'm going to war or something.
other than that it's pretty damn good. well produced.

i'm not a big fan of that style of music - but objectively it was well written and mixed. excellent use of audio and instruments - 8.2 / 10

hum. nice intro... shame about the rest. sounds like a playstation game.
- Vain0
thanks for the comments. even if you didnt like it, I'm glad it made you feel like you were going to war. Not necessarily "war", but a powerful emotional event. Ultimately we'd love to work on movie soundtracks. (who wouldn't) ;)

hey if you got connections for that, i'd love to do the score for a playstation game. :)

Hey do you guys do soundwork for websites too?
- Xentic0
yeah, nice track. I like it! The only thing I don't really care for are the fast drum sounds at the end of the song... doesn't sound like the right sample to me, not real enough. But I like the rest!
- Vain0
meok check your email.
you didn't like the fast drumming at the end huh? I can understand your point of view, I just thought it was a cool way to mix a classical sound with the influences of todays music.
At any rate, I appreciate the responses.

i think the drums are a bit synthetic and empty.
but the distorted guitar is very nice.
i ripped a guitarsound of Yngwie Malmsteen and put it in Reason, for my sisters fashionshow, and tried to make the drums as acoustic as possible:

that's the first time this happened to me. again.

the mix is definitely good
good usage of the guitar midway through
speech samples...a bit overused as a concept
the technicalities of everything are in place, but i don't feel there's any emotional content. i think orchestral music is great -- but it must be used with exceptional innovation -- especially when it's synthesized.
i would leave out the long intro, as well as the piano notes at the end.
i for one like the drums.
hope to see you someday in the industry of composing for motion picture! i'm on my way there myself.

Thats a nice tune Stewart.
The guitar in my song was written out in cubase using a VSTi called Slayer 2 by ReFX.
Personal opinion - my drums are quite the opposite of synthetic. Listen a few times, let it soak in, imagine it's a real orchestra.
One could easily be led to believe that that was a live orchestra. (maybe if the mastering was a little more fine tuned)
If you could tell me a way to make them feel less "synthetic" I would greatly appreciate it.
- Vain0
btw stewart - did you write that orchestra out on your computer? if so I am INCREDIBLY impressed
- azyning0
i think the the entire mix is solid. but the orchestra audio doesn't seem 2 mesh very easily with the beginning or the end of the track. it's almost as if it's 2 seperate songs.
other than a little discomfort with the fluidity of the piece from beginning 2 end, i think the technical and emotional aspects are very strong.
- iSolve0
well put
- Vain0
thank you azyning, that was very well put. It really is more of a "Movement" rather than your standard song nowadays. Hopefully it was a little sad, a little exciting, and a little uncomfortable.
Thanks for your response.
