Fontographer Question

OK, I'm trying to draw the character in Illustrator and then paste it into Fontographer, I'm sort of new to Fontographer so I'm not sure if you'll understand me here, but it's pasting it in asa template, sort of dimmed in the background.
Is there any way of getting it pasted in as the actual outline of the font, any help is greatly appreciated people!

if you try using illustrator 8 then i guess the pasting should actually work in fontographer...

i'm not too familiar with fontographer, but i know that if you want to copy & paste something from illustrator and you need to preserve the illustrator paths, you have to go to
Edit>Preferences>Files&Clipboard... as AICB>Preserve Pathstry that.

Make sure you are pasting into the correct layer. If its greyed out you could be pasting onto the trace layer...
