Face it. Any goob who knows how to draw a straight line in photoshop is a designer these days. Most people don't consciously know the difference and will always go for the less expensive option. Or maybe some of you out there ARE the less expensive option...

:P heh i kno im so fuckin loveable
- brundlefly0
Bullshit.
they are in there little niche markets, but I can't imagine the photoshop kids sitting in board rooms with at&t designing interfaces, or developing campaigns for national clothing chains....
if they want the $400-$500 websites, then why would you want to work for that client, they split the mix, and that is fine by me.
- cyberthug0
the AWARDS list make you seem egomaniacal and now I think you're crazy again. Go away.
- brundlefly0
uh sorry but jerry's kid is gonna make the website now...

it's the same with any industry, but it's easier with computer-related skills. i mean, you could hire some jackoff plumber and not realize he sucks, but other plumbers could be saying "that bob... he doesn't even know the latest flushing technologies... he just copies the other plumbers!" see? since you're in the industry you can spot a bad designer like a nasty rash on your nutsack. but there is still hope. there are still good jobs for good designers. the good designers are usually hired by a creative director who knows his shit. or the good designer is THE creative director. sure, the suckies make it harder for the goodies to get well paying jobs. but when you land a good job and work with people who know your talents and appreciate them, and know there are other horrible designers out there, you just feel better having the good job. after all, it's the good designers who design the sony, or the macromedia, or the apple, etc. etc. let your good corporate portfolios say to the bad designers what you'd like to say to them in person... "you suck."

ha ha ha
im not an egomaniac

I agree with what Brundlefly first said. Noobs are gonna get the small work and not the fortune 500, 1000 clients we all strive for. Under the corporate eye they would get into a situation where a pretty picture in PS is not going to save them. Then again all the major design houses act just as childish by ripping on each other so what is the lessor of the two evils?
- Blofeldt0
I mean. Who the hell are these kids drawing cartoons on computers? Anyone can do that?
- mcLeod0
a portfolio should no longer be enough. people need to be able to prove that they know what theyre doing when it comes to design theories in order to weed out the ones who got lucky on a few pretty pictures that happen to turn out nice.
"The big problem is that most contemporary graphic design practiced today is not really graphic design, but graphic decoration. Design denotes function, history, planning, problem solving, communication and, dare i say, language. decoration is just making things look nice."
