anyone ever had luck working for trade rather than cash?
i have a potential client (a cable radio network) that wants to trade advertising (both web and Radio spots) in exchange for a site.
ever had any success with something like this? or am i an idiot for even considering

You can't eat a commercial and you can't cook a new client.
tough one.
i'd go trade, advertising is always good (find out the audience numbers and demographic beforehand. An ad for websites won't appeal to 70+ grannies...)

I am sceptical. Clients who suggest paying in something other than cash aren't really serious to begin with. Plus, I imagine a cable network would want something fairly large and radio / web spots are dirt cheap these days. Just make sure you don't get ripped off!
Remember, cash is king.

First get the demographics for that station, the get info on the time slots. For example if it's a local station, and they give you 4 am time slot, that would equal to maybe half a page of HTML.
Also, are you thinking about using the airtime, or reselling it ? Here is what I would do, think about how much you want for the site, then call the station and tell them you are about to open a "Used Condom" store downtown, and you would like to run some adds, your budget is (whatever you want for the site), So then you'll know how much you are getting.

where i work, we've done some projects for printers. In trade we got to create self-promo peices with diecuts/unique binding/etc for little to no cost.
If you can use their service and you hash out the extent of service both sides are willing to commit to, it might be very beneficial.

good idea S79, you can always resell the air time to another client and pocket the cash they pay for it.

No! I know! I know!
Do like this: Tell them you'll do everything for free IF they say this after their jingle is played "You're listening to blah radio, and this is the morning show brought to you by a big, thick penis"
Seriously. I would do it for free if they kept saying the penis thing along with their jingle for a month or two. Har har.
