weird ftp problem

I am trying to upload a file of 140KB on a some server in Spain (with whom I had several problems in the past).
The weird thing: all the files below 140KB are uploaded easily, the one over 140KB not (and I tried several ftp-clients).
Is this some kind of server-bandwidth-limit?
I am helpless, the server-guy won't usually respond but within 2 weeks or more..
Can anyone help?

PS: every time I try to upload the file, the server connection is closed and the file transfer is stalled..

then the admin may have an upload cap on the ftp server. it isn't that uncommon to have ftp servers with allow/deny access or bandwidth caps.
especially if the server has an open, anonymous ftp directory or public upload space.
although, 140kb is pretty small...usually it is around a meg.
the only thing you can do is contact the admin and request an increase in your virtual server restrictions.
