I am sure everyone is aware and has seen the innovative"FlyGuy" game created by Trevor Van Meter, whether it was on one of many portal sites or in Communication Arts Interactive annual.

I recently came across a strikingly similar piece created by an unknown firm for the BBC4-

It may not be a direct rip off, but the concept, music and general style seem to be very similar. Would you say it is flattery or a blatant copy?
It is distressing that so many sites these days are directly ripping each other off- rather than using it as fuel to push design in our field to a higher level.
thoughts?

TVM definately seems to have the intellectual property on this.

Yeah! Look at the BBC infringing onFlyGuy's side-scrolling patent. What a rip! See how that character scrolls to the right? Unbelievable.

DEFINITElY see the influence.

Not the side scrolling so to speak- but the interaction of the characters- the helicopter pulling a banner.. all way to close for comfort.

So, anyone have any leads to who did it? Just curious...

I wonder if it was done internally.
