how often if ever are you instructed to steal content/consept from other sites.

This is something that I am strongly against and when I refuse I find that someone else in the company is tasked to do it.

This will be one of the factors that will have me seeking a new job in a few months. Just wanted to know if this is common amongst the rest of you all ?

Yeah, I've had lazy Art Directors in the past who ask to steal functionality from other sites, or animation style, effects etc. They do it because they aren't qualified for their level of responsibility. You deserve better guidance than that.

it destroys the moral of the office, we have a good crew of people that want to be creative and have the ablities to do great things. They don't have to rip to do it right.

Just really pisses me off, This is also one of the reasons that I have gone completely development rather than design. The people that give me task here don't know enough about coding to tell me how to do it. Ugh....

what the fuck is creative about straight ripping other peopls work?

By all means be inspired by it and draw influence from it - but no self-respecting design house is going to ask you to do that...

Sounds like you need to get away from the comedy club dude...

a lot of the time i just pull off the odd icon or arrow, or pattern, you know like a hatched pattern/45 degree thing. then i'd just modify them, i mean, what's the point of spending time and money drawing a pixel arrow when there is really only one way of doing it!
i sometimes like to find sites with download sections, desktop patterns etc, often with a sort of textured effect, i might drop them into some of my collages as an extra layer. i quite often lift ideas/concepts for navigation and menus, that sorta thing, but i think everybody i know does that. its beyond being influenced i reckon. to get colourways going, i sometimes take a screen dump of a nice site and drop that in illustrator and get busy with eyedropper tool, it's all relative innit! that's what the webs for i suppose, and i suppose if you work for big company you can do it all the time, nobody's gonna believe a little student in the north of sweden with nice little flash site! its a tough life!

I got fired from a job before because I wouldn't steal peoples shit. They did come right out and say that but it was a big deal when I started questioning ish. It didn’t help that I’m a pain in the ass sometimes.
