OS X problem

I turned my mac (os x 10.2.5) on this morning and to my surprise I can't move any folders or files (it was fine the last time I used it). I can select them, change thier names and if I select a couple of files on the desktop and choose arrange from the view menu they move fine. But if I try to drag any files myself they just stay put.
Any help would be really appreciated
Cheers

try get info and check permissions

Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility... Then click on your HD icon when it comes up in the list and 'Repair Disk Permissions'.

I have checked the permissions and they are fine. It is happening to all the files on the drive not just ones on the desktop.
I have done a virus scan and all is clear on that front
Any more ideas?
Cheers
