Do you know how to change the RAM allocated for a software on Jaguar? I tried to do it the usual way but it won't let me edit the number.
Is it because I'm not using a single user OSX?
Hope I'm making sense.
Thanks

osx does it all for you as and when you need it

This stinks.
There is no way I can change that then? What about applescript or something?
Hmm..

Are you having memory issues?
- rasp0
slap more memory in, quit the apps you dont need
- pascii0
Memory allotment for applications is now dynamic in OS X.
What this means is that the application will only use what it needs. You do not need to specify how much memory an
application should be allocated.

you can't change or allocate more memory - osx does it for you on a "i need some more friggin ram now" basis
you can't do it from the back end either

But I'm working on a filmstrip file in PS and although it does the job it's super slow. A bit more memory would be good.
I don't believe i'm saying this but I miss OS9 right now.
They should give you the choice to do it manually if you want.

i love my 2 gb or ram, and how i can control it.. but i thought M$ was totalitarian.. no, theyre just stupid
mac on the other hand...
ok i'm leaving now before i get burned

not really, remember in os 9 all those freezes you would have? well that's because it gave you the ability to funk with the memory settings, shit didn't mesh right then walla, freeze. OSX dynamics is great, if it's running slow it's telling you quit somethings or feed me more memory. PS has always been a memory killer, I would say no less then 512 to run it.
it's good to let the computer take control sometimes.

Photoshop > Preferences > Memory & Image Cache
You can set the amount of available RAM that Photoshop uses, what that is depends on how much you have installed and what else you have running.

Thanks ever so much dstlb,
I can't believe I didn't even think of looking at PS's preferences! doh!
My faith in apple has just been restored.
Peace

No problem, might have shown a few others the light too :)

theres a utility app called osx optimizer or something where you can setup the priority in which ram is allocated to apps / finder / graphics etc..
