So do you need the hardware or is there a workaround to make it work without it? I wanna try it out someday to see what the fuss is all about

You can run LE with the 002 or the Mbox (which is under 500usd) from http://www.digidesign.com/ I would get the 002 though, you won't regret it. I've used ProTools LE and TDM systems for years now and love it.

I use ProTool sLe, and you can just use the stock soundcard to try it out. It recognizes the line-in 1/8" input and sounds surprisingly good.

so basically I could run it with a simple soundcard too?
I heard that you need their hardware to run it though

believe you need I/O hardware, I use LE with the legacy 001.

is there a ProTools LE for os X yet? its no good to me in OS 9 :(
