How do you go about getting a license to avoid being taxed by the client instead of having your own tax ID #?

I have always used my social security # as a tax id - then deal with the govt. on thir terms.

I designed a site for another designer (weird stuff), is like he only does traffic maintenance for clients, he has a business license, but I also have more clients, he wants to have my personal info to 90nineme, but I just don't like that, he must have the info to show the government where his business money is going.

So give her my SS# and let her send me a W-2 at the end of the year?

This link may or may not help. Spend some time to go through it at least. I believe a license is $35.
