where can I find the html code for footnote notation? like the little "1" at the top corner of a word?
what site lists a bunch of html notation for odd symbols?

html symbols are technically known as html entities, so if you search on that you can get pages like this one:

as for that little superscript 1, try a 1 between [sup] tags.

last time i used the [sup]-tag indeed, and if you are going to work with anchors (to go back and forth from text to footnote) you might reconsider if they are already (working) in a Word doc.
Normally I'd say Word docs are evil, but if you clean up the horrible M$-code here:
http://textism.com/wordcleaner/
then in my case it perfectly added the footnotes, fully working with anchors!
yay! (saves a hell lot of time)..
