Hey,
Tried this at home today after getting inspiration from a fiber-art book:
1) buy cheap t-shirts
2) buy Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner w/ Bleach (the bleach part is important
3) make a stencil
4) tape the stencil to the shirt, and apply the lysol gel to the areas you want to bleach
5) Wait for a while - you'll see the colour change. Waiting longer will get you lighter colours.
6) Stop the bleach by dropping the shirt into a bucket with a weak vinegar solution
7) WashAll told, it takes about 30 minutes to make a cool t-shirt.
My first two turned out pretty nice... I just have to work on my stencil skills. I think i might also try using spraymount to stick the stencil to the shirt, so there's less bleed.
DIY, baby.

I'll see what I can do; I'm currently between cameras.
I did two shirts; a red one and a black one. The red faded to pink, which looks awesome; the black faded to red. I'm sure if i left the stuff on a bit longer, I could burn out to a light yellow on both.
It's worth a try; $3 for the bleach gel and whatever you can get a cheap t-shirt for.

Yeah, you can actually buy t-shirt gel bleach to do exactly what you did. A friend of mine made a run, looked nice.

make sure you put something inbetween the front & the back of the tshirt otherwise you end up with a print rectoverso on yer shirt, yah!

i hope u can get rid of that smell of vinegar.

The t-shirt gel they sell is more expensive, harsher and a bit of a rip-off.
The vinegar smell goes away in the wash; it's a mild vinegar solution (i used a tablespoon in a bucket).
Again the key here is you can do it at home, with no equipment and bery little money. I have a screenprinting rig; still I'm always on the lookout for cool ways to make your own stuff.
