Hi!
I'm going to buy a new digicam in the near future. I'm thinking about the Canon G5, Nikon CoolPix 5400 or the Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom.Whinch one is the best? Or do you know another better one with the same price? I need some more feedback before I can decide... They all have some pros & cons..
Thanks!

Sounds good! I have to keep it a little cheaper though ;-)

i shot with a eos 10d when i was looking at cameras, it was a damn nice camera, but i didnt think it was worth the extra money. i ended up buying a sony f717 instead, and so far its been the best damn money ive ever spent.
ive shot about 3000 shots through it so far, and have had it for about 4 months and would buy the same camera again in a heartbeat if i had to.
hope that helps.

does the eos use one of those newfangled cmos chips?

I have a 10d and a g3. The G line of Canon has alwasy been really nice for that range. Take great shots, and even decent macro on it. Never used the other ones, so I cant compare though.

Hi!
Buy the Olympus!
Bye!

Check that out, usually have some good reviews on cameras and should help you make your choice.

Thanks guys!
TIOIS: I hear a lot of possitive things about the Olympus. Do you have one?
I hear the G5 produces a lot of noise when set to a ISO value higher then 50. Sp much people sell it only for that reason.
I was thinking about the Sony dsc-f717 too... is it really that good? But can you use CF cards with that camera?

The G5 is my choice, yet to hand over the money but I think I'll be checking it out a little closer thanks to this thread.

yeah, i was pretty shure about the G5... untill I heard about the high noise level...

I have a 717 and it used to be the best one out there for the price but now theres a new sheriff in town ;)
If you have the extra bucks, go for the DigitalRebel (EOS Rebel 300D in the States) .. its around 699 to 799$ US and its truly a SLR camera .. ive seen it in action and it works like a charm ... you can interchange Canon EF lenses with a 35mm camera and the digital one, which is truly worth all the dough youll spend on this one

Im stuck with my 717 for the moment since im buying a house but as soon as I get some breathing room, im grabbing the Canon!

I have a Nikon 5700 which is good apart from poor low-light performance (f2.8 lens).
I bought a canon G5 but took it back because of the noise problem (really bad!)
Then I looked at a Canon 300D/Rebel, but it doesnt have a swivelling screen (essential for the event coverage type of work I do where I have to shoot above eye-level a lot)...
So now I'm waiting to see what the Sony 828 will be like (again the noise issue may be a problem)...
It seems nobody makes a camera *at any price!!* that has the features I want (zoom on the lens, swivelling large screen, high resolution, good external flash capability)... wierd.

I know what you're saying. I'm so not going to rush the digital camera thing. the whole 4 3rds format has yet to kick in. it's going to kick the ass of the EOS 300d, and yet will be stupidly overpriced for the next two years.
The G5 is the camera i want, with one pretty big downflal, but canon are pretty good at solving prolems on big sellers so fingers crossed.

get the rebel digi or the g5...
i'm getting the rebel.. cause i am one...it will give my hassleblad something to play with.

you can get G3's pretty cheap these days and it doesn't have the noise problem the G5's have.
I love my G3.
I really want the Rebel...

Canon A80, kicks ass. great price for a 4mp camera. plus it's the closest and cheapest thing to a digital SLR. Only 400 bones.

there is a big camera show i believe the first week of febuary ... They should be announcing all the cameras coming out this year.. you should wait and see.. I am waiting to see what is coming.. tempted to get the canon rebel.. the new sigma looks pretty slick though.. plus you get two lenses with it.. i just want something that costs about 1000 bucks and hooks to my RB6x7 and my 4x5's
