for health insurance purposes...
Who here has done it? I may do it soon.
My girlfriend is currently getting her PhD and with only a part-time job, she doesn't recieve health insurance. We had planned on getting married in a few years anyway, but we may just go to city hall and tie the knot on the downlow so she could hop on my company's insurance.
I'm surprised my company doesn't offer it for people living together, after all, what about gay couples.
I should ask my boss about this. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?!?

never actually seen anyone ask for a marriage certificate. they don't really care, they assume its true and they make the same money in either case.

really?!?!?!
Do you know of other places that offer health insurance for part-time employees?

I figured that would be the case. Either way, money would be coming out of my paycheck for another person anyway. Unfortunately, they know I'm not married (I've been here for 3 months....only now am I entitled to insurance).

My co-worker, who was living together with someone they got pregnant, even though they were planning to marry a year from then, they decided to get married on the city hall right away just so that the baby and pregancy was covered by insurance.
Everything worked out fine for them.
They did not tell the boss or anyone that insurance was a major factor, (I was just a close friend) and I think that was a good idea because our boss doesn't need to know your personal life, all they need to know is you are getting married. People get married in the city hall all the time, it could just be because they are saving money for a church wedding or whatever.
Best wishes.

That was one of the main reasons I got married. We were already together for 7 or 8 years and even had kids. We never really cared about being married before. When I got a good web job in the IT industry with good benefits (when I was 24) I thought it was the right thing to do to take care of them and put them on my family insurance and other benefits.
