Can you update to os9.1 or 9.2 while running osx or will that screw something up? I installed osx after installing 9.0. So I can't run Classic at the moment.

I would start up from os9 and do it there but Im afraid in os9 I wouldn't have a choice to boot back up in osx. (I'm a bit nervous as I just had major harddrive problems)

Also, do I have to install 9.1 first or can I just install 9.2?

You can do it in either order, but there can be complications to do with versions...

Starting in either OS shouldnt affect ability to restart in the other...

I restarted with os9 as the startup disk and only got the smiling Mac forever. I had to put in the osx disk to change the startup disk back to osx.

My real problem is that I can't run Classic or install 9.1 because it says it Classic cannot find a mac os9 system folder on the startup disk. You may need to install 9.1 or later.

So I'm stuck in a paradox. What can I do?!?

You need to install OS9 on an external disk or something... then you can choose that aas the temporary startup system while you install on the main disk... or something like that.. I forget, but there are ways around this stuff if you have enough time and disks to shuffle things around...

Also, you can choose the startup disk by holding down the option key on startup (you get the simple blue screen with startup disk choices), so you dont need the install CD.

Cool thanks, I didnt know that. The holding down X thing never works for me BTW.

Do you know why os9 would start up and sit there with the smiley face forever and do nothing else?
