I just reinstalled Panther 2 days ago on a new hardrive and since yesterday it has occasionally been locking up doing basically nothing. For example, surfing a web site or going through a BBedit menu. OSX is supposed to be stable.
Anyone else have these problems?

make sure you have all of the updates installed that you can...security, software, etc...all the apple stuff that comes up...i found my machines to be a little testy until some recent updates...so that may be a place to start

Good point. Thanks. I'm installing all the updates now. 10.3.2 plus additional updates for other apps. Thanks.
If anyone else has any ideas or experiences I would like to hear them also.

Font Book has messed me up alot w/panther. i've found that taking out all the non-system fonts fixes it. then i put them back and it works for a while, then gets weird and i have to take them out again. it's lame bu ti dont know what else to do.

Damn this F*cking jalopy just locked up again. This time I moved a browser window a half an inch!!! And it was the only app open!!!
I had already installed the updates too.
The worst is I lost all my Reason patterns I was making earlier.

But what actually happens?
Spinning beach ball?
Finder frozen but other apps responding?
No apps responding?
Cursor frozen?
Kernel Panic?

The frozen cursor everytime and no chance to force quit. The piece of shit locked up about 3 times since my last post (mostly in Mozilla). The last two times I was only typing a reply on NT!

repaired permissions?
- ribit0
frozen cursor on OSX is REALLY unusual!
Have you tried Apple support? (website), do you have Applecare?
- CX0
Yeah, I repaired permissions earlier. It locked up again looking at a website so I ran DiskWarrior on it. Its a 2 day old 120GB harddrive but it had wrapper volume damage.
DiskWarrior repaired it. I guess I brought over some bad files that I was trying to save off my old HD when it went out a few days ago. The other HD was too severly damaged for DiskWarrior to repair.
I didn't want to spend the $ on DiskWarrior at first but it has definetly been well worth it.
Thanks dudes. I hope it's all right now.

Everythings super fast now. Even rolling over the text links in the PVAN. Internet connection even way faster than earlier.

F*ck this piece of shit just locked up again this time typing in the PVAN again. I think it's time for a G5 or maybe a PC.
