has anyone used asp sites that clients can update themselves from supplied templates?
kinda like a hosting package that you can sell to clients with a template

never seen anything like that...macromedia contribute is the closest thing I can think of....

you say "forms and tadaa - site"
It's still a basic CMS system, no?!
Or am I missing something? (i don't have tripod / geocities accounts)

if the only thing they want to update is inventory, just use a database.

Not sure if this will be too simplistic but try http://www.sitemason.com

I want my potential client to be able to register themselves to create an account and start from there
I give them the front end and they work using a backend admin to create their pages, all online
sort of like someone said with Contribute but online.
Much like a "white label" type of site but they fill it with their own content

Shutdown, I did exactly that with a client using the Sitemason software.
The client can add their own content and can even customize things like feedback forms without messing up the code.
It's not useful for complex websites though. Has to be a pretty clean HTML (XML is what SiteMason is built on).
