I've recently tried to use a movie [with transparencies] in MAX as a material, and had some dificulty... Either export it as PNG [huge], or try to use it together with an opacity channel [dificult to synch]...

try using the blend material if you wnna use maps, make solid channels for the visual sections...
i could explain it better but im kinda busy now.
