I wanted to get a simple and relatively cheap midi keyboard to use with cubase or pro tools anyone have any recommendations? been looking at the 49 key Rolands and M-Audio.
Any advice?

there's a thread on this but the best advice I could give you would be to go to http://www.computermusic.co.uk hands down the best info for this kinda thing.

other than that Roland makes some nice General MIDI keyboards. Don't forget you are going to just use it as a controller, but you are going to want to think about the polyphony. :)
