SLOW PHOTOSHOP ON G5

Hey all,
I'm using a 1.8ghz G5 with 2.5 gigs of ram and for some reason Photoshop is unbeliveably slow. It's the only thing open and it's still slow. I mean sssllllllllloooooooowwwwww. An old g4 with only 900ish megs of ram will kick its ass on saving big (1.5 gig) files. Is there anything I can do to speed up the program?Thanks,

hmmm, not really. im running ps6 in classic and it screams

I run 7 and CS on a one gig g4 powerbook, seems quite fast on both.... maybe repair permissions or just reinstall..... should be very peppy on a g5.

applications/ utilities/ disk utilities
inside there is a check permissions and a repair permissions, try it and reboot

Had the same problem....on a G4
running ox10.3 repair permissions fixed the problem.ps i would not run if you have illegal programs....not that you would since yer on a g5

Damn, repairing the permissions seems to have worked. It's not lightning but it's a hellava lot faster than it was 10 mins ago.

I'm just curious why? I run XP with legal software, i'm just curious what the reason why somebody shouldn't do that with illegal programs on a g5?

lower your ram alocation to around 60 -70%
This helped alot with PS CS

I've heard stories mabye even rumors that people have run "repair permissions" Thus, disabling all there illegal programs. I have not witness this just something I heard.

The 1.8 single processor G5 was ranked very low on PS tests, even lower than some of the faster G4s.

Have you installed the plug-in for PS on a G5?

i never heard that. in fact, i read in a MacAddict that the 1.8 screams compared to the G4. I have the 1.8 and have had no problems. it runs super fast to me.

I repaired the permissions and added that update from adobe and now it's running pretty fast.

I read it in macworld, they compared PS on windows machines to the leading G5s and G4s (dual 1.25, i think).
The windows machines kicked the mac's butt. the 1.8 G5 was the slowest in all of the tests. the dual 1.8 wasn't out yet then.
I tried to find it now, but couldn't.
