first hing I'm gonna do is start an anti-bush campaign...err...after I hit the mountains that is...nobody I know over there is pro-bush except...and this is teh fun part...my father-in-law! Which is strange because he's SUCH a fucking ace guy apart from that!

Currently going through the Green Card process myself actually - but I'm quite a few steps (years) behind you.
Engaged to an American, waiting in Canada for my Fiancee visa to be approved (interview in mid-Feb). Head to the US in March and get married in June. Do some more waiting and then receive my GC.

Apparently doing it through London is always really quick for some reason...if we had done it from teh states it would have been a lot longer...go figure..

No you can do the green card lottery. You can get a job first and than you get a visa, work from there. Become a student at an american university, work from there. Order an American bride (instead of the usual russian). Get an american girlfriend (you meet a lot during backpacking). Etc.
