Shite. That's my word to describe it. Once again I've got a problem which has happened so many times before and I don't know how to fix it. And Adobe is no help whatsoever. $159 for one-to-one support on one product? No thanks.
My problem: making PDFs from Quark. running Mac OS 9.2.2, Acrobat 5.05. I output an EPS from Quark (because making a PDF direct from Quark bombs the machine). I drag theh EPS onto Distiller and it makes the PDF fine, but it crashes at the end and I get a "Type 1" error. The PDF file is then put into a hidden folder called "Temporary Items xxx" and I have to search in Sherlock to drag it to the desktop.
Does anyone have a similar problem? And is there any way to fix it?

Are you making an EPS or a PS file from Quark? Try making a PS file instead and distilling that.

Download the latest Postscript printer driver from here... http://www.adobe.com/support/dow…
Install it and then in the Chooser select it as the printer. Then in Quark when you go to print you save a PS file.

Thanks, I'll try that. It's weird though, one day it works, the next you start up and it decides it doesn't want to play.

That's what makes Distiller so much fun, you never know what its going to do next. Grrrreat.

Nope, still doing the same thing. Don't know why, I've not changed any settings and it was working fine last week.

I get these problems a lot, I think it has more to do with Quark than Distiller.
I have pretty good luck with switching the printer driver in the quark print dialogue box when making the PS file
