Everybody's got opinions like assholes. :
Personally I think 2Advanced does amazing work, but does that mean I agree with the whole site of the year thing? Well, I don't think I can fairly comment, I haven't seen enough.I do think, though, that the lads at Ultrashock have a good idea of what's going on and I'm sure they've got very valid reasons for boosting 2A.
Just my 2 cents.
I am enjoying all the links everybody's tossing in, though!

The kids over at Ultrashock are butt-buddies with 2a. They use them for their host, have their banner on the site, always have interviews with EricJ, and the praise for sites flows like water. Or something that flows a lot.

2A got nominated by one site on the top of 2003 for WellVetted. Geesh..
What about F-150 getting the nod 2x. Or in the top 12 from FWA. w00t.
Seriously, dont you guys have something better to do?
Like use huge large helvetica fonts all over the place? or complain about wierd bugs in Panther? Or complain about something? Anything?

On behalf of flashkit I picked F150 for wellvetted soty.
It was a serious toss up between that, the FI RR site, and group94 - who in my opinion are the best design studio working at the moment (just in front of hi-res!). I love flash functionality and usability, I am annoyed by buttons made in AE that have no purpose, or waiting for 1meg to download to see a piece of text with an image over it, but I thought that the F150 site is deserving, it combines EFFECTIVE video and AE with functionality and message, it was the most successful design imho and recieved the most plaudits at flashkit. :)
