One with a PC-MCIA slot. Also, fast drives and atleast 768 megs of RAM. I'm using 15 powerbook with old Akai flash rom stuff and a Alesis controller.

FUSCHNICKEN there was an article about this not too long ago in Computer Music UK, hands down the best mag for Computer Music making: http://www.computermusic.co.uk I would say that any laptop that has a ton of space and good CPU will work for you and an external HD for storing files is also highly advised. To me using a seperate computer for making music is the best case scenario.

i could not imagine using reason on a 12" screen...thats crazy talk...i would think you would need at least 15"....

i have used reason on my laptop for a long time and i have this midi sportman thing that lets me convert midi from my rhodes to usb and vice-versa. the latency is so terrible. the note is audible about a second after you press it.
anyway, check these bitches out http://www.sub.co.uk/index.php

i've been sing reason on a 17 inch for quite some time and it sucks - I'm upgrading soon and anything less than two monitors will simply just not cut it - if you're getting a laptop - invest in a docking bay that's gonna link up two monitors to it.

why does it suck?
I need portability

These are the best PC notebooks you can get at the moment for the price.. they rival most top of the line desktops...
Just make sure you up grade the Memory to 1 gig... the Hard Drive to a 60 gig 7200 RPM
Everything else with it is awesome.. and best of all you get this all for 2k.... most systems with speedy would run 3k if like HP or Toshiba sold it.
Dont be fooled with Toshibas 17 incher.. this thing has awesome components.

PS.. the support and service from this company is some of the best you will find.. just to set your mind at ease..

apple power book 15 or 17 inch.
you can plug in a secondary monitor, upgrade to a 5400 rpm HD (less swapping out) import via firwire, and stuff in 2 gigs of 2700 ddr ram....
its a full solution, Ibook isnt gonna suck, but it isnt near as fast
