I just got canned today! oh well water under the bridge
But my real trouble is Just before Christmas. My Truck was broken into and a DVD which contained my entire Design Portfolio was one of the items stolen
so now i have no job and nothing to show for myself to get a job
Has anyone ever experienced this?
what should i do, other then get my own website done.?

keep it simple... do a one of inspring design that boths shows your capabilites and promotes you're looking for a job.
Hey, you could even incorporate the nightmare of losing your DVD of work...
If you're creative you'll sort it out.

Yeah, I agree this situation of losing your dvd may actually help you come up with a neat way to promote yourself.

it was just my files burned to a disk not an actual DVD video.

Umm do this, make a cardboard sign that says Lost? Need Direction In Your Business?
Go to a nice business area stand on the corner wearing a suit hold up the sign.
Your bound to get some press and maybe a job offer or two while your on the corner one busy morning even do it outside of a starbucks etc.

somehow draw on your connundrum .... kinda like what james is saying.... if you can creatively react to this situation through your new site....in a way that entices and is fun...potential employers may be wowed by your problem solving and optimism........two things extremely important in any face paced job environment...

Did you keep any printed samples? Maybe online versions of them? I'd try to recreate some of the better stuff.
Make the best of it. Things could be worse.

geez...now i know why my anal ass has 3 or 4 backup copies of my work. i hope you find your files on some dusty old cd backups elsewhere man, i feel your pain.
but like everyone else is saying, use it to your advantage and make the best of it.
as for me, im getting canned at the end of this month too...actually, the shop is shutting down, i got a speeding ticket last week, my house got robbed a few months back and i lost my $2,000 laptop, digicams, i gambled away over $1,500 in vegas the last few months, i got jumped and stomped in the head a few months before that helpin a friend out....but all in all, i still got my backups. whew!

You say the DVD was a back-up. Where are the original files? with your previous employer? Can't you try to get copies from them of the work you did?
